Resort to War

This much-anticipated reference book analyzes more than a thousand wars waged from 1816 to 2008 using authoritative, highly standardized, and systematic coding methods from the Correlates of War Project, which aims to reveal the underlying patterns and causes of war. Resort to War lists and categorizes all violent conflicts with 1,000 or more battle deaths and provides an insightful narrative for each struggle.

Meredith Reid Sarkees is president of Global Women's Leadership in International Security and serves as a consultant on women's leadership. She is also a faculty fellow at the Women Politics Institute at American University. She and coauthor Nancy E. McGlen wrote Women in Foreign Policy: The Insiders, a landmark study of women in the U.S. State Department and the Pentagon. She is a longtime associate of the Correlates of War Project and a coauthor with its founder, J. David Singer. Frank Whelon Wayman is professor of political science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, president of the Faculty Research Club of the University of Michigan, and a longtime associate of the Correlates of War Project. His most recent book, co-edited with Paul F. Diehl, is Reconstructing Realpolitik.
