Right wing populist movements and related politial parties are currently gaining ground in many EU member states. This volume offers a comparative survey of far right parties across Europe, examining in particular their changing political rhetoric. The contributors look at the development of two distinct forms of party development and discourse:* The Haiderizationmodel -- drawing on the style of the former leader of the Austrian Freedom Party, Jorg Haider, such parties claim to speak for 'the people', endorsing chauvinist and nativist ideologies, leading to a politics of fear. * The Berlusconizationmodel -- a happy-clappy populism mixing feelgood consumerism, ethno-nationalist sentiment and shallow hedonism with lamentable actions against immigrants and minorities.Parties covered in this wide-ranging book include the British National Party, the Hungarian Jobbik and the Danish Folkeparti. The authors examine the role of the media in prooting right-wing populism and they look at strategies to combat the exclusionary rhetoric and policies of such parties.
