Janet Allen taught reading and English for almost 20 years in Maine before moving to the University of Central Florida where she taught reading, writing, and English Education courses. She is now a full-time researcher, writer, and international reading consultant recognized for her comprehensive work in reading education. Patrick Daley has spent his teaching and publishing career championing the needs of the older struggling reader. Before joining Scholastic, Patrick was a teacher and reading specialist for Grades 4-9. He received a graduate degree from Boston University in Reading and Language. Patrick first joined Scholastic as editor of Action Magazine—a magazine tailored to older students who were not reading on grade level. Since then he has been a leading force in the intensive reading intervention program READ 180. Patrick is also the author of many high-interest books featured in the READ 180 Independent Reading Libraries as well as Professional Resource books for teachers.
