Roman Britain and the Roman Navy

This interesting and well-illustrated study focuses on one particular element of the Roman navy, theClassis Britannica. Mason draws on recent excavations of Saxon shore forts, the remains of the few warships that have been found, and the distribution ofClassis Britannicatile stamps in England and along the coast of mainland Europe, to identify the organization of the British fleet, the location of its ports and harbors, the type of ships used, and the sea paths taken.
