The author attempts to arrange in a simple form, in a few easily accessible pages, the principles of Christian symbolism as depicted on the large fabric and the minor details of our churches and cathedrals. His aim has been to compile and arrange information respecting the symbolic origin and development of what is called ecclesiastical ornament, and has dealt only with its purely artistic or architectural qualities for the complete revelation of its religious function.
