English summary: Over the course of 150 years, Roman medallions developed into an important medium of imperial self-representation. After substantial impetuses of innovation under Nero and Domitian, medallion production experienced its first peak under Hadrian. An in-depth analysis of the material was lackin, until now. Peter Franz Mittag has cataloged more than 100 pre-Hadrian and 220 Hadrian medallions and placed them in their historical context. Interpretations of the sometimes ambiguous images provide indications of events or recipients and thus offer insight into the structures of imperial communication with various relevant groups. German description: Die romischen Medaillons entwickelten sich im Lauf von rund 150 Jahren zu einem wichtigen Medium kaiserlicher Selbstdarstellung. Nach deutlichen Innovationsschuben unter Nero und Domitian erlangte die Medaillonproduktion unter Hadrian einen ersten Hohepunkt. Eine eingehende Analyse des Materials fehlte bisher. Nun hat Peter Franz Mittag uber 100 vorhadrianische und 220 hadrianische Medaillons katalogisiert und in ihren jeweiligen historischen Kontext eingeordnet. Interpretationen der zum Teil mehrdeutigen Darstellungen lassen Hinweise auf Anlasse bzw. Empfanger erkennen und bieten so einen Einblick in die Strukturen der kaiserlichen Kommunikation mit verschiedenen herrschaftsrelevanten Gruppen. Konkordanzen und Indices ermoglichen eine schnelle Erschliessung.
