I love looking at the stars. Today, December 1, 1993, the biggest thing happening for Stargazers is the effort to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Dad and I have been following the Hubble Space Telescope since its launch, and we'll be glued to the television as the space shuttle astronauts attempt to repair Hubble's vision problems. I'm even doing a school project on the repair mission. I wish I were as excited about the other changes that are happening in my life. The space telescope was supposed to give humans a new eye in the sky so we could see the Universe more clearly. But because its mirror was incorrectly shaped, Hubble's pictures have been a big disappointment. Hubble's future rides on the success of this repair mission. Today everybody is wondering: Can the shuttle astronauts complete their complicated mission and restore Hubble's sight? While I am wondering: Can I make my history fair project about the rescue mission the best in school? And will watching the space shuttle astronauts grapple with their seemingly impossible mission help me find answers to my own problems here on Earth?Rudy Becker, Stargazer.
