Scientific Integrity

Scientifc fraud, conflict of interest and ethical dilemmas have plagued the scientific community in recent years. In response, graduate courses in the biomedical sciences are increasingly offering formalized training in responsible scientific conduct. This is the first textbook to address this new and important area.

Francis L. Macrina, Ph.D., is Director of the Institute of Oral and Craniofacial Molecular Biology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He directs an NIH-funded research program in bacterial pathogenesis and has served on NIH study sections and other federal advisory boards and panels. He has served on journal editorial boards and is presently editor-in-chief of the journal Plasmid. He teaches a course in scientific integrity to graduate and postgraduate biomedical trainees at VCU and has helped in the development of similar courses at other undergraduate and graduate institutions.
