The Sea of Disappointment

Considered to be one of the most important of contemporary Irish poets, Thomas Kinsella is credited with bringing modernism to Irish verse. Kinsella's poetry deals with primal aspects of human experience in language of extraordinary vividness and power. His first books, Poems (1956) and Another September (1958), established him as the major new voice in Irish poetry. The peak of Kinsella's public success came with the founding of the Peppercanister Press and the publication of his angry response to the Widgery Tribunal of Inquiry into Bloody Sunday, Butcher's Dozen in 1972.
