A Sea Story follows the adventures of Ben Slade, a retired mathematician, as he bounds about the Caribbean on his 47-foot catamaran. On his journey through the islands off the north coast of South America, Ben develops a relationship with Cynthia, a beautiful ballerina, who joins him on his trip west. Ben is an unexpected hero, an aging intellectual who manages to rise to the occasion when heroic deeds are required. He romances Cynthia. He intercepts a stolen rutter, ancient sailing directions to a sunken Spanish treasure ship. This incurs the wrath of Mendoza, a notorious Colombian drug lord, who pursues him through the Caribbean islands. He rescues six Colombian girls from abduction, creating an enemy of yet another drug lord, Sanchez. With the help of the girls, he deciphers the rutter and closes in on the treasure, but the drug lords are closing in on him. A Sea Story combines unpredictable adventure with unlikely generation-gap romance in a danger-filled sailing setting.
