Cheerleading and the Law

The emergence of sport risk management, which includes the popular activity of cheerleading, is timely and important in reducing injuries and subsequent lawsuits. A risk management plan for cheerleading is needed to meet the unprecedented growth of the sport to reduce the number of injuries and subsequent lawsuits that often follow serious injuries. Herb Appenzeller is the President of Appenzeller & Associates. Dr. Frederick O. Mueller is a professor and former Department Chair of Exercise Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently Director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research which is located at UNC-Chapel Hill. Elizabeth H. Appenzeller is a college cheerleading coach at an NCAA institution.
