The Havamal: With Selections from Other Poems of the Edda, Illustrating the Wisdom of the North in Heathen Times

First published in 1923, this volume provides the entire text of the H#xE1;vam#xE1;l in the original Old Norse, together with a facing-page English translation. At the time of publication, the poem had only been made available within editions of the Poetic Edda or still larger collections. This was therefore a significant book, which considerably increased the accessibility of the H#xE1;vam#xE1;l. A long introduction and generous notes are also provided, together with extracts from three other poems (including the greater part of the Sigrdrifum#xE1;l) which serve to complement the main text. This is a consummately edited volume that will be of value to anyone with an interest in Old Norse literature.
