Kosmos Runge : Der Morgen der Romantik

English summary: In honor of this year's 200th anniversary of the death of Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810), the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich are showing a large exhibition dedicated to him. This accompanying catalog provides a comprehensive overview of the complete works of the artist and includes much current research. The works of Philipp Otto Runge were of central importance for the development of German Romanticism. Because Runge sought a renewal of art through his work, he served as a role model to many. His theory of color was not only of relevance for the artists at the Bauhaus, but was reflected upon again and again well into the 20th Century. This extensive catalog illustrates from a new perspective the forked path Runge took to create his work. Completely new insights into Runge's way of working are brought about by a project funded by the Philipp Otto Runge Stiftung that is dedicated to the study of the techniques of some of his major works. Indem Runge mit seinen Arbeiten eine Erneuerung der Kunst anstrebte, fungierte er fur viele als Identifikationsfigur. Seine Farbenlehre war nicht nur fur die Kunstler am Bauhaus von Relevanz, sondern wurde bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein immer wieder mitreflektiert. Der umfangreiche Katalog veranschaulicht anhand eines neuen Blickwinkels auf Runges bildkunstlerisches Werk den verzweigten Weg des Kunstlers zu seinen Arbeiten. Vollig neue Erkenntnisse uber Runges Arbeitsweise bringt ein von der Philipp Otto Runge Stiftung gefordertes Projekt, das der maltechnischen Untersuchung einiger seiner Hauptwerke gewidmet ist.
