150 Years of Photography in Spain

Accompanying an exhibition of the same name, 150 Years of Spanish Photography offers -- through almost 200 photos and the text of Spanish photo-historian Publio Lopez Mondejar -- one of the most in-depth and comprehensive looks at the entire rich and deep history of Spanish photography. These images have been carefully and intelligently selected from the extensive heritage that Spanish photographers have left over the past century and a half, with a commitment both to historical relevance and to aesthetic beauty. The works we find here are the most visually stunning and moving Spanish photographs of all time, from anonymous historical images to the experimental work of contemporary artists. At the same time, these photographs capture landmark moments in Spanish cultural, political, and social life, as well as the lives of everyday people, illustrating the evolution of Spanish photography -- and through this, reconstruct the modern history of the country of Spain itself.
