Seaspray and Whisky: Tale of a Turbulent Voyage

This is the author's story of a 1960s transatlantic voyage on a down-at-heel cargo vessel. Misled into signing on the 'Allenwell', he finds himself on a journey to New York, New Orleans and Houston with a motley collection of mariners. The crew's attention was inevitably drawn to the consignment of Scottish whisky among the ship's cargo leading to pilfering and drunken crew members, and with 960 bottles missing when unloading in Texas, prompting the police and FBI to take a special interest. This is an amusing, entertaining and poignant memoir of this extraordinary journey, told with candour and compassion.
