Sexual Subjects,a psychoanalytic book informed by gender theory, queer theory and feminism, addresses the tensions inherent in writing about lesbians and sexuality in the postmodern age. In a theoretical book seasoned with clinical anecdotes to make the theory come alive, Adria E. Schwartz questions the construction of certain categories of identity and reference: woman, feminine, lesbian, homo/hetero/bisexual, mother, while examining specific issues which are problematic but nonetheless meaningful to self-identified lesbians, such as the butch/femme roles.

Adria E. Schwartz, Ph.D., is Supervising Analyst at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and is on the faculties of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Mount Sinai Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry.
