Shakespeare and War

A lively collection of essays from scholars from across Europe, North America and Australia. The book ranges from Shakespeare's use of manuals on war written for the sixteenth-century English public by an English mercenary, to reflections on the ways in which Shakespeare has been represented in Nazi Germany, wartime Denmark, or cold war Romania.

PAUL J. C. M. FRANSSEN is Lecturer in British Literature at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. He obtained his PhD there in 1987, and specializes in Shakespeare studies. He has published widely on Shakespeare and related topics, and coedited two volumes, one on the author as character and one on Shakespeare and European Politics.
 
ROS KING is Professor of English Studies at the University of Southampton, UK. She has published extensively on renaissance drama and culture, including The Works of Richard Edwards: Politics, Poetry and Performance in Sixteenth-Century England and Cymbeline: Constructions of Britain.
