Simon is a mentally challenged young man who applies to work for the Post Office. Through a mixup in paperwork he is assigned to CIA agent training instead, where through misunderstanding and just dumb luck, he finishes the course with honors. Because of his exceptional performance, he is assigned to a prestige posting, the CIA Station in Paris. Here, he continues to thrive as an agent of the CIA still believing he is working for the Post Office. He is sent out in the field where he manages to successfully conclude his missions again through misunderstanding, misinterpreation, and dumb luck. Though he is "slow", his positive outlook and friendly nature serve him well and he makes friends who, recognizing his handicap, look after him and make sure he comes to no harm. Frank is a twelve-year-old who experiences some extraordinary events in his life. After losing his father to a fatal traffic accident, Frank and his mother, Doris, move on with their lives as best they can. When summer vacation starts, Frank starts to spend time by a lake in the municipal park. There, he meets Jake, a self-described recluse who wishes no contact with his fellow man. But for some reason he takes to Frank and begins to teach the young man how to use his mind efficiently. Through Jake's mentoring, Frank develops a superior intellect and mental abilities way beyond his twelve years. How does he cope with his new abilities? Who really is Jake?
