Slovenly Kate and Other Stories From the Struwwelpeter Library

Meet Slovenly Kate, Envious Tom, Tell-Tale Jenny, and other disagreeable characters in this comic collection of cautionary tales. Originally published in 1874 as part of the Struwwelpeterseries, these stories recount the horrible but humorous fates of naughty children. Includes a wealth of additional rhymes and fables, plus delightful illustrations by Theodor Hosemann.

Frankfurt physician Heinrich Hoffmann wrote and illustrated his darkly humorous Struwwelpeter as a Christmas present for his 3-year-old son. A series of cautionary tales, it recounted in verse and images the lamentable fates of naughty children. Struwwelpeter has since gone through hundreds of editions and is published in almost every European language.
