Since the 1970s, the prevalence of autism has increased from two in 10,000 to one in 150. Autism has become a household world. Small Pastures is a story about a mother who raised an autistic child in the 1970s, when the medical world knew almost nothing about her son's condition. There was no protocol, no treatment, and no acknowledgement that autistic children even existed. Small Pastures is about a mother's quest to find the research and resources she needed to raise this child to adulthood when all the doctors said to put him in an institution, a quest that became a sacred journey, an exhausting mental, emotional and spiritual adventure that transformed the lives of herself and her family forever.
