Small-Scale Mining

Small-scale Mining represents today a major segment of the mineral industry worldwide. The ramifications of its spread effects are of much significance in developing economies. This volume collates the papers presented at the International Conference on Small-scale Mining hosted by the Mining, Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India in October, 1991 and converges on the major facets of this sector including policy issues, economics, environmental impacts etc. in less developed economies. In effect, the volume synthesises and reflects the current global concerns on problems of Small-scale Mining and the initiatives required for promoting the activity.
The Conference provided a platform for exchange of experiences on Small-scale mining in Afghanistan, Bhutan, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Malawi, Papua New-Guinea, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Thirty-five papers presented by renowned experts at the Conference, have been edited and updated and presented under six sections. Also included are the Recommendations of the Conference.
The book should prove to be of value to policy makers, mining companies and mine operators around the world involved in this vital segment of the extractive industry.
