Social Democracy and European Integration

This book examines the process of European Monetary Integration, itself representing one of the most significant economic initiatives of the contemporary period, and evaluates its potential for facilitating a progressive economic strategy - as advocated by social democratic labor movements. Under analysis is the idea of EMU as one step on the road to the construction of a European Social Model, in sharp contrast to what is often presented as the North American alternative of unfettered market forces.
