The Socioecology of Adult Female Patas Monkeys and Vervets in Kenya

With the completion of modern long-term field studies, we are discovering how much more there is to learn about the lives of wild primates. Some synthetic frameworks through which we previously interpreted primate lifestyles and primate evolution are being radically re-worked. These realizations come at a time when extinction threats to many primate species are of crisis proportion, and conservation efforts have never had so much private or public support. Primate Field Studies is a monograph series designed to impart the comprehensive results of long-term field studies to a broad audience at a critical time. Long-term field studies often have a cohesive story to tell which encompasses many different topics, from group size and food distribution, to social behavior, reproduction, and demography. The comprehensive and accessible monographs in this series are designed to be part of the arsenal of conservationists, to become a much needed adjunct to textbooks within the university setting, and to provide a much needed forum for information exchange among researchers themselves.
