In this study, a land suitability and water management zoning concept is introduced as a starting point to analyze and to evaluate the potential of tidal lowlands for agricultural development. Based on the land suitability and water management zoning, soil and water management strategies for an area can be derived.
In comparison with the conventional method, the imaginary topographical concept with a GIS is a useful and powerful (much faster and more accurate) method. This concept introduces a new approach for modelling the tidal drainability and irrigability of the area by taking into account the spatial hydraulic losses in the system.
