His work has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, Harper's, The New Yorker, Playboy and Story. His fiction has been widely anthologized in Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards, The Best American Short Stories and Pushcart Prize Stories. He lives in rural Virginia with his wife and their five children.
