Introduction: Sons of Issachar

In I Chronicles 12:32, David is joined in battle by "the sons of Issachar, who understood the times...." Can God help us to understand the times in which we live? What are the "macro" themes of our age in history? What is the nature of the spiritual battle raging in our day? Does God have a unique and urgent message for our generation? Chapter 1: America at the Crossroads

God uses us to accomplish His plans. When we pray, we actually participate in what God is doing on earth. Drawing exciting parallels with the book of Exodus, this chapter describes the spiritual significance of the roller-coaster ride that was Election 2000, when a divided nation was given a wake-up call to pray...and keep praying. Through those tumultuous events, God pulled back the curtain and revealed the nature of the spiritual battle of our day. If we are to have any hope of seeing revival and averting judgment, then we, the Body of Christ, must commit ourselves to sustained, fervent prayer. A spiritual battle was won, but the war is still raging over this country...a war that has implications and ramifications for Israel, and for the world in which we live.

Chapter 2: Standing in the Gap in the Spirit of Daniel, Part I

Our nation stands at a spiritual, as well as historic, crossroads. Will we experience judgment...or revival? We must seek God in the same spirit as Daniel, a humble man who worshipped, repented, and interceded for his people and nation. "Who knows if he [the Lord] will relent and leave a blessing behind him?" (Joel 2:14). As an example, this chapter also details an inspiring account of how the Puritan settlers sought the Lord in the face of an imminent danger.

Chapter 3: Standing in the Gap in the Spirit of Daniel, Part II

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 were a sign that the Church in America is "asleep in the light." This chapter is a passionate plea for fasting, humility, and prayer on behalf of our beloved nation, as well as an exhortation to seek personal revival.
