Responsible for the emergence of American confessional poetry, W. D. Snodgrass won the 1960 Pulitzer Prize for his first book, Heart's Needle. Since then, his work and art have continually moved in unpredictable and surprising directions, from After Experience to the Inferno-like cycle of dramatic monologues in The Fuehrer Bunker, to collaborations with the painter DeLoss McGraw, and to the masterful Each in His Season; books of essays include In Radical Pursuit, and De/Compositions; his translations were collected in Selected Translations; and, in 1999, his autobiographical essays, After-Images. W. D. Snodgrass lives with his wife, critic and translator Kathleen Snodgrass, in Erieville, New York, and in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
