Like the sower in the Gospel parable, homilists scatter seeds of faith each Sunday, calling forth growth in the hearts of their hearers. But such sowing requires a range of supportive, accompanying work: seeding, planting, harvesting, gleaning. The Sower's Book has been written for homilists and preachers who believe that preaching is a ministry -- indeed, the most important communication they have with the communities they serve. Jay Cormier is the editor of Connections, a monthly newsletter of ideas and resources for homilists and preachers. His background includes work in radio and television, church communications and public relations and college teaching. He facilitates workshops and seminars on public speaking, communications and homiletics. A graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., and Emerson College in Boston, Mr. Cormier is completing his doctorate in pastoral communications at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Massachusetts
