Space Radio Science

Space Radio Science deals with the theory and practice of space communications with Earth's satellites and interplanetary probes, interstellar radio communications in our galaxy, and the effects of gravitational fields on propagating radio waves. Oleg I. Yakovlev is an academician at the International Academy of Astronautics and Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and has contributed greatly to the development of space radio science in Russia. He and his colleagues have performed radio occultation studies of the atmospheres and ionospheres of Earth, Mars, and Venus using planetary satellites, carried out the bistatic remote sensing of the Moon, Venus, and the Sun, and conducted radio sounding of near-Sun plasma. In recognition of his efforts he has twice been awarded the USSR State Prize and received the title of Honorary Scientist and Engineer of the Russian Federation.
