Reverend Robert Edward Knowles (1868-1946) was a Canadian Clergyman and author. He was the pastor of Knox's Presbyterian Church in Galt. He was an eloquent speaker and his sermons were considered by many to be very convincing. He was a strong supporter of temperance forces in Galt. After involvement in a train accident in 1915, which resulted in damage to his health, he had to resign from both the church and the ministry. His literary career, which began in 1905 with the publishing of his first novel St. Cuthbert's, flourished. He also wrote for the Toronto Daily Star and was famous for his interviews with world figures. He was a member of the Authors' Club of London, England. His works include: The Undertow (1906), The Dawn at Shanty Bay (1907), The Web of Time (1908), The Attic Guest (1909), The Handicap: A Novel of Pioneer Days (1910) and The Singer of the Kootenay: A Tale of Today (1911).
