The Story of the Selvino Children Journey to the Promised Land

Fundamentally a documentary, Selvino's Children describes the story of the rehabilitation of 800 Jewish children, Holocaust survivors, in the first few years after the Second Word War in a small town near Milano-Selvino. There, Jewish-Palestinian soldiers, with the help of committed and well-wishing Italians, built an educational establishment that rehabilitated these children and prepared them for life in Israel. The book gives a very interesting account of the children's elaborate journey before, during and after Selvino.

Aharon Megged has been a pivotal figure in Israeli letters since the 1950s. His many novels, short stories and plays reflect the complexities of Israeli society over the past 50 years. His work has been translated into a number of languages, including English. He has won many literary awards, and has been the president of the Israeli PEN centre, as well as the cultural attache at the Israeli embassy in London (1968-71). The author is a member of the Hebrew academy. He is married to the writer Eda Zoritte, with whom he has two sons - one of whom is a writer, and the other a professor of history.
