Strangers and Natives: A Newspaper Narrative of Early Jewish America 1734-1869 provides a unique glance back to what it was like to be Jewish during the formative years of the United States—as illustrated by more than 170 curious and often whimsical articles, advertisements, releases, announcements, obituaries and more from newspapers and journals of the time.

Ron Rubin is a political science professor emeritus at the Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York. He was first published in 1959 and has continued to publish over 100 works world-wide. His specific interest in Judaica, history, and the written word inspired him to amass the immense collection of periodicals from the colonial through civil war eras containing news about the early Jewish American community. Peri Devaney is an editorial, marketing, and administrative consultant with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from the State University of NY at Buffalo. Her editorial career includes more than 30 years of writing and editing newsletters and brochures as a volunteer for non-profit organizations and schools. After working as Executive Director of AFCOM and serving as Founding Editor of its highly acclaimed magazine, Devaney formed PERIodicals, and additionally worked as Administrator for Jews for Judaism, an international non-profit organization.
