A Surprise for a Friend is about empowering children at an early age with financial knowledge that will serve them their entire lives. A Surprise for a Friend is the second illustrated children's book in a series reinforcing the concepts of saving, budgeting, planning, donating, and making good choices. Like Best Day at the Zoo, the book entertains children while building their foundations in personal financial literacy. Skye and Rey enjoy playing soccer with their friends. Their ball is worn, and they dream of buying a new soccer ball. They learn new skills to earn money and to save. A Surprise for a Friend is a story about friendship and making good choices. "A Surprise for a Friend" was written to align with the National Standards for Personal Financial Education, which are used by many states in developing their own financial education standards.

Doug Godard is the author of A Surprise for a Friend and Best Day at the Zoo. These books are part of a series that presents concepts of personal financial literacy to children through storytelling. Doug and his wife, Cheryl, live in Columbus, OH. Doug and Cheryl have three grown children and a grandson. After forty years in commercial real estate, Doug shifted his energies to Bonzy Charities, a nonprofit that he founded. Doug is passionate about supporting economically disadvantaged children and helping them reach their full potential in life. Doug is active in his Upper Arlington Rotary Club, is an avid perennial gardener, and plays a lot of pickleball.
