Sustaining Belief: The Church of Worcester from c.870 to c.1100

This study focuses on ecclesiastical organization and pastoral care in the diocese of Worcester in the tenth and eleventh centuries, unanimously acknowledged as the formative period for the parochial geography of late medieval and early modern England. This diocese is one of the best documented regions in Anglo-Saxon England, thanks to the survival of a large number of early charters, the study of which casts precious light upon, not only the diocese of Worcester, but also the wider issues concerning the parochial system and the cura animarum of late Anglo-Saxon England.
