This book is about the application of the field of synergetics to society at large and more specifically the firm. The reason for including society in the context of what would otherwise be a book on organizational architecture is twofold. First, considering society at large gives a better idea of the scope of what is written in these pages. Without the references to comparative economics and social structure of the culture and biology of groups of individuals it would be difficult to explain the application of synergetics to the firm in a vacuum. Second, the application to firms relies heavily on the fields of macro and micro economics, biology, psychology, physics and production control. These elements come together using the tools of synergetics to produce temporal and spatial self-organization creating an environment that allows dynamic free flow of people, resources, energy and democratic power. The combination of all of these things leads to a firm based on an internal market system coupled with a democratic system of governance.
