A Tar-heel Baron

Mabell Shippie nee Clarke Pelton Smith (1864-1942) was an American author. Born Mabell Shippie Clarke in Boston, she married F. Alaric Pelton in 1891, who died, and then James Ravenel Smith in 1907. Her works include: Where Women's Clubs are Not (1903), A Tar-Heel Baron (1903), The Billy Coal and Transfer Company (1904), Dickens Day-By (1911), The Spirit of French Letters (1912), Twenty Centuries of Paris (1913), Ethel Morton at Rose House (1915), Ethel Morton's Enterprise (1915) and Ethel Morton's Holidays (1915).
