Paul R. Pillar was deputy chief of the Counterterrorist Center at the CIA. He also served as executive assistant to Director of Central Intelligence William Webster and has held a variety of senior managerial and analytical positions in the CIA and the National Intelligence Council. He was a U.S. Army officer and served in Vietnam; he received degrees from Dartmouth College (A.B.), Oxford University (B. Phil.), and Princeton University (M.A. and Ph.D.)
