The New Wettstein is a collection of parallel texts from the milieu of the Greco-Roman world of the New Testament. This collection enables scholars of different disciplines and also interested lay readers to gain a better understanding of the manifold relationships between the world of ideas in the New Testament and its contemporary context in antiquity. The first part-volume of the New Wettstein on the Gospel of Matthew covers chapters 110. Special emphasis is on the childhood history and the texts on the Sermon on the Mount. Here it is remarkable how many striking and interesting parallels exist in the history of religion. They document how deeply even the Jewish Christian Gospel of Matthew was embedded in the religious and philosophical debates of Hellenism.
