The therapeutic landscape concept, first introduced early in the 1990s, has been widely employed in health/medical geography and gaining momentum in various health-related disciplines. The only other collection devoted to the concept was published in 1999, providing an introduction to the concept and its applications. Given the developments and critiques that have since taken place, this second collection presents a number of contemporary advances and applications of the concept. The first three sections are written mainly by health/medical geographers, addressing contemporary applications in the natural and built environments; for special populations, such as substance abusers; and in health care sites, a new and evolving area. The fourth section breaks new ground by providing an array of critiques or contestations of the concept and its various applications. The final section is made up of contributions from anthropologists, who are the discipline's pioneers in applying the concept to anthropological investigation. The concluding chapter provides a critical evaluation of the development and progress of the concept to date, while commenting on likely avenues for future investigation.
