The Think Tank is a novel about the personal struggles of a public school teacher who is in the throes of losing his career, along with several other teachers who have been caught up in a purging of those who possibly will be deemed as undesirable. It is also a story about an American family and social and political issues at the time in this country as well as around the world.

James Linn was born in Ames, Iowa and was raised in a suburb of Chicago. He became a college basketball player and, encouraged by a university mentor, began to write seriously. He was an adjunct English instructor and a public-school teacher for over twenty-five years and has written two books of short stories and several novels.
