John T. Waisanen obtained his B.A. in communication from Michigan State University, his M.A. in industrial design from Wayne State University, and his Ph.D. in rhetoric and technical communication from Michigan Technological University. In addition, he studied architecture and worked as a consultant, designer, and trainer in the automotive industry. A banjo player and instrument maker, he loved to restore old instruments and furniture.
