Thoughts From A Redneck YankeeIntroductionI always wanted to write. As an elementary school student I was constantly writing short sports stories. In the morning I couldn't wait to read Shirley Povich the sports editor for the Washington Post. Most books I read were of the sports variety, The Chip Hilton series by Clair Bee, The Lou Geherig Story, The Babe Ruth Story and many other sports stories, both fiction and non-fiction.When I went to the University of South Carolina I decided to major in History and Political Science because I had a very good memory and thought that that would be an easier major for me rather than majoring in Journalism. When I graduated from USC I spent 30+ years selling pharmaceuticals and medical equipment-So much for using my degree in History and Political Science.What triggered my renewed interest in writing? The first thing to trigger this renewal occurred while I was watching The Glenn Beck Show on Fox TV. I'm getting mad as Hell as I hear Glenn Beck talk about Van Jones, an avowed Communist, and other Obama appointed czars who had political views that ranged from Mao Tse Tung to Marx. Their religious views were Agnostic at best. I am writing this book to try and figure out how I let my country go the way of the "Progressive Movement" and how can I help get it back to the land that I grew up in and the land that our Founding Fathers envisioned. I will reflect upon all the issues as they happened while I was growing up and try to relate them to today's happenings.A secondary theme of the book is the modern day "War of Northern Aggression". Having lived extensively in both the North and the South, I found the political and social views of both regions both amusing and sometimes tragic. I will write about my growing up in the North, my Southern relatives, and going to college in the South during The Civil Rights Movement and The Vietnam War.There is no protagonist in this story like Holden Caulfield of Catcher in the Rye, unless you consider Carl Warren Simonton a protagonist. This is a story that I hope everyone reads and identifies with it in relation to Howard's speech from the movie Network. And finally I hope young people will read this book so they will know about The Civil Rights Movement, The Vietnam War and other events that affected my generation then and now.
