Most of the real life fluid mechanics problems are time-dependent (i.e. flow properties are function of time). However, especially owing to lack of experimental facilities to study such flows, there are not enough studies compared to the steady state flow studies in fluid mechanics literature. To remedy this situtation, in the present thesis work, a unique mass flow rate control unit was adopted to study various features of time-dependent flows. Major parts of the book contain detailed description of laminar pulsating pipe flows and application of the analytical knowledge to develop a flow rate metering technique for pulsating flows. Applications of this flow metering technique to fuel injection systems were described. The book also contains experimental investigation results for laminar to turbulent transition in pipe flows both for steady and pulsating flow cases.
