Transnational Asian Identities in Pan-Pacific Cinemas: The Reel Asian Exchange

In the wake of increasing globalization--which is often construed as Americanization--there has been a lack of critical attention and scholarship focused on the transnational nature of film production in Pan-Pacific cinemas. The aim of this volume is to explore the transnational exchange of film talent, cinematic conventions, business practices, and national/racial identity between North American and East Asian, between the local and the global, and between the independent and the mainstream. Organized according to key themes: remakes, auteurs, reception, female stars, and hybrid identities, this volume brings together a mixture of old and new voices to examine the transnational exchange of cinematic conventions and ethnic identities in Pan-Pacific cinemas.
