This book explores the process of truth recovery in Northern Ireland. It begins by detailing the nature, extent and causes of the Northern Ireland conflict, including the levels of victimisation, nature of the perpetrators, and the politics of truth recovery. It looks at truth commissions as well as a range of other mechanisms designed to assist in the process, including the British and Irish government's independent Truth Recovery Commission. The book also looks at international experiences of truth recovery within the context of Northern Ireland. In the final part of the book the author theorises thetruth recovery work that has taken place; this includes looking at the diverse agencies involved in current initiatives, including former IRA members, Loyalist, British Army, former and serving police officers, victims, and human rights activists, peace people and churches.
