Understanding Hydrological Variability for Improved Water Management in the Semi-Arid Karkheh Basin, Iran: UNESCO-IHE PhD Thesis

This book provides a comprehensive assessment of (surface water) hydrology of the Karkheh basin, Iran, which is instructive for sustainable planning and management of water resources in the river basin context. The results are based on rigorous use of the state-of-the-art methods of hydrological investigations, including development of innovative techniques. The results mark ongoing water allocation planning as non sustainable. The reformed planning and management should essentially address issues related to hydrological variability and changing streamflow regimes. This process should be guided through the application of interdisciplinary (hydrological) models to better understand basin hydrology and trade-offs associated with different management strategies.
