A User's Guide walks the reader through the challenging task of understanding and applying the Old Testament. God's Word is meant to go from the page to our lives, but doing that can be difficult. First we see how the Old Testament reveals Jesus Christ, the progress of redemption, and the glory of God. Then we look at the five key genres of the Old Testament: history, law, wisdom literature, prophecy, and the Psalms. The book starts from the simple ("What is the Bible?") and then proceeds to some of the thornier questions about Old Testament interpretation like applying the commands. It also provides a distinctive approach to the Psalms to help the Christian reader see all the treasure they contain. The book is meant to be approachable enough for a beginning Bible reader, but insightful enough for the preaching pastor.
