She wondered why her family had died without hope of rescue when the Vi-kayas could have raised their power to prevent the tragedy. She had been left alone on a plain to look upon the ashes of her loves and to hear nothing but the sigh of a cold wind. In misery and solitude she asked herself why she had not also been slain and burned by the Garaki. She was haunted by nightmares and in her waking she feared that statues of her ancestors turned towards her on their fire blackened pedestals and accused her for being alive when all else was destroyed.
