English summary: The first volume of this new series is the result of the German-Italian Vigoni Forum on Constitution in the past and future: Six decades of experience in Germany and Italy, which took place from July 15th through 18th, 2009 at Villa Vigoni. In a comparative perspective, the question of what has today become of the basic constitutional ideas of 1948-49 is discussed within the evolved terms to which the Constitution itself has contributed, not least helped by its successful focus on stabilization and peace in Europe.
