Walking the Camino in an Age of Anxiety by John H. Pratt retraces the steps of the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago, Spain, through the author's personal journey in the fall of 2001 and in the shadow of the 9-11 attacks. Through the use of primary sources as well as the experience of walking the 500 mile route across northern Spain, the book brings to life the world of a very popular pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. It is also a book about life on the Camino today, especially life for the author, his wife, and a good friend, who made the journey together, and the many interesting walking companions they met along the way. No one who walks the Camino de Santiago every day and greets fellow pilgrims with the traditional salutation "Bon Camino" comes out of the experience without being changed personally or spiritually in some way, however subtle that change might be.
